Relief workers provide temporary cover for staff absences and assist cooks during particularly busy days. In short, they work wherever they are needed. As the work takes place over the lunch period and during term time only, these posts are ideally suited to those people with young children at school. Relief posts usually lead to permanent employment within the school meals system.

It is not necessary to have experience of kitchen work for these posts as full training is provided.

Under the relief worker arrangement, we cannot guarantee that you will work every day or that the number of hours that you work will remain the same. The hours worked will very much depend upon the particular post that you are covering.

As a relief worker, you can state exactly where you are prepared to work. You may be prepared to work across the entire district or just at those schools within your immediate neighbourhood. Some relief staff limit their work to just one or two schools! The more that you are prepared to travel however, the more work you will receive.

The current rate of pay for a relief worker is £6.00 per hour.
